On the 7th, NextEye announced that it is developing AI-powered inspection robots for use in high-mix production lines in collaboration with SIASUN, a Chinese robotics and automation company. The plan is to expand the scope of automated inspection by integrating NextEye’s machine vision and AI inspection technologies with SIASUN’s robot platform.
This project originated from a need for automated inspection expressed by an existing automotive parts client. Because shapes and inspection points differed by product type, the client faced issues regarding the high costs of equipment investment and the burden on production floor space if they were to add dedicated inspection equipment for each item. As a solution, NextEye explored a system where a single robot-based unit could inspect multiple types of products.
The system under development operates by having the robot recognize and pick up a part from the production line, move it to the specific inspection position and angle, and then use a vision system to capture images and determine whether the part is defective or non-defective. The goal is to expand the system's capabilities to handle new product items through AI learning.
When selecting a robot platform partner, NextEye evaluated candidates based on key criteria such as price competitiveness, mechanical quality, stability during repetitive tasks on actual production lines, and the ability to implement specifications tailored to the inspection process. They comprehensively assessed not only cost-effectiveness and performance but also the feasibility of on-site implementation.
After comparing and conducting due diligence on several Chinese robotics companies, NextEye selected SIASUN, determining that it met all the necessary conditions. Factors influencing this decision included the verification of actual operational performance through on-site testing and SIASUN’s extensive experience in manufacturing environments—ranging from industrial, mobile, specialized, and semiconductor-transfer robots to automation solutions for welding, assembly, and logistics. According to company data, Sinsong has executed over 18,000 projects for approximately 4,000 clients across more than 40 countries.
Currently, the two companies are engaged in the initial development phase to integrate robots with conveyor systems. Once the robots' basic operational stability is secured and performance regarding the recognition and grasping of moving parts is verified—marking the completion of the first development stage—the equipment will be brought to Korea to incorporate Nexteye’s vision inspection technology.
A Nexteye official stated, "While discussing inspection automation with existing automotive component clients, we identified a need for inspection systems capable of flexibly handling high-mix production." The official added, "We plan to develop an inspection robot suitable for actual manufacturing environments by combining Sinsong’s robotics technology with Nexteye’s machine vision and AI inspection technologies."
Meanwhile, Nexteye is a KOSDAQ-listed company established in 2000. In addition to its machine vision optical inspection equipment business, the company operates "Roadmir"—a global B2C cross-border e-commerce platform managed through a U.S. subsidiary—and engages in the health supplement and cosmetics businesses.
